Apple is an American multinational corporation and technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California, in Silicon Valley. It designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and online services.

We’re live from Cupertino, California, where Apple is about to kick off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), often called Dub Dub by attendees. It’s expected to announce new artificial intelligence features, reportedly called Apple Intelligence, and updates to its iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple TV and Apple Watch software.

Apple typically releases new software in developer preview ahead of a full launch for consumers sometime in the fall with the launch of the new products.

The event is prerecorded but we’ll hear from executives including software chief Craig Federighi, who will likely address the real-life uses of Apple’s AI, whether it should be run locally or in massive cloud clusters and what should be built into the operating system versus distributed in an app.

“Data security will be a key advantage for the company and we expect them to spend time talking about their privacy efforts during the WWDC as well,” Citi analyst Atif Malik said in a recent note.

Tim Cook-led Apple is set to unveil the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, VisionOS and WatchOS at its Worldwide Developer Conference 2024 event in California today.

While WWDC has historically been a software-focused event for years, Apple has often used the occasion to unveil some of its premium offerings such as Macbooks or iPads. However, rumours suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant is in no mood to focus on its hardware offerings this time around. Instead, Apple is likely to use the power of AI to deliver a massive overhaul of its operating systems.

According to reports, Apple has already signed a deal to power generative AI features in iOS 18. The official announcement of this deal is likely to be made today.

Notably, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has already reached Cuperitno-based Apple Park, as per many images circulated on social media, and is likely to join Tim Cook to confirm a partnership between their two companies. Reports suggest that Apple and OpenAI's partnership could be for the short to medium term, just until the iPhone maker can get its own AI systems up and running.
